Things to note when transplanting boxwood

Things to note when transplanting boxwood

1. Choose a flower pot

Choose a flowerpot of moderate size. If the pot is too big, it will be difficult to control the amount of water used, and it will not be conducive to the roots absorbing water. A pot that is too small will inhibit its growth and limit its plant shape. It is advisable to use a purple clay pottery basin and choose the shape of the basin according to its shape. If it is a cliff style, use a deep cylindrical basin. If it is an inclined style, use an oval basin.

2. Pot soil preparation

Boxwood grows in fertile, loose sandy soil. The potting soil can be made of garden soil or leaf mold, mixed with appropriate rice husk ash to supplement certain nutrients for its growth. You can also use vermiculite with peat soil, which has strong alkali resistance and is also beneficial to its growth.

3. Proper pruning

Prune the boxwood tree before transplanting to reduce the crown's consumption of water and nutrients. Dead and weak branches should be cut off, and overcrowded branches and leaves should also be trimmed. This can increase internal ventilation and light transmission, and is also more conducive to growth after transplanting.

4. Transplanting

Boxwood trees are suitable for transplanting in spring and autumn, usually in early April. In fact, the climate is pleasant and the survival rate of planting is very high. After digging it out, keep the soil ball on the roots. When transplanting, plant the soil ball into the pot, not too deep. After filling and compacting the soil, water it thoroughly and place it in a cool and ventilated place.
