What to do with the dried tips of peonies in summer

The reason why the leaves of peony flowers dry up

Planting too late

Peonies need strong rhizomes as support for their beautiful blooms. They have many roots and can fully absorb nutrients from the soil. But if you plant too late and the soil is hard or frozen, it will be difficult for the roots to extend downwards and grow. In the spring of the second year, after the peony flowers sprout, the roots cannot absorb enough nutrients. When summer comes, it is hot and dry, and the leaves are likely to wilt.

Unsuitable soil

Whether the soil for peonies is suitable can be known in summer. Compacted soil, alkaline soil, and poor soil will affect the growth of peonies. Because water evaporates quickly in summer, the roots need to get sufficient oxygen and water from the soil to meet the growth and development of peony flowers. If the soil is not suitable, the roots cannot absorb enough water, the leaves will become dehydrated, dry out or even fall off.

Planting at the right time

The best time to plant peonies is in the autumn when the weather is clear. After planting, the plants should be given sufficient growth time to allow the roots to grow healthily. Take good insulation measures in winter. Before summer arrives, be prepared to provide shade and avoid strong sunlight.

Improve soil

Do not use saline-alkali or sandy soil to grow peonies. Choose ordinary garden soil and add a small amount of coarse sand to increase the permeability of the soil. Add organic fertilizer in time to increase soil fertility.
