What to do if Saxifrage leaves fall off

What to do if Saxifrage leaves fall off

Analysis of the reasons why saxifrage leaves fall off

Frostbite

Saxifrage is slightly cold-resistant and can safely overwinter in temperatures around 5°C. However, if the temperature is too low, such as in the winter in the north, it will easily get frostbite if grown outdoors.

Frostbitten leaves will wither and fall off easily, and will fall off if touched.

Root rot

If the leaves of Saxifrage fall off and you check the connection between the leaves and the stem and there is no sign of blackening, you should consider whether the roots are rotten.

Saxifrage is tolerant to shade and humidity. If the temperature is too high and there is water accumulation in the potting soil, it will cause root rot, and the plant's ability to absorb water and nutrients will be weakened, causing the leaves to be damaged, wilting and falling off.

Temperature treatment

In the north where the temperature is lower in winter, it is not suitable to grow saxifrage outdoors. Flower lovers who have heating can move the saxifrage indoors to ensure that the temperature remains warm during the day and night. If there is no heating, you can cover the saxifrage pot with an insulation bag to protect it for a period of time.

Some variant varieties of Saxifrage even have higher requirements for winter temperatures, and the wintering temperature cannot be lower than 15℃. In this way, flower lovers in the south should also take insulation measures to prevent saxifrage from frostbite.

Root treatment

Pull up the plant, check the root system, clean off the sticky soil of black rot, and then cut out the rotten parts.

Place the plant in a ventilated and cool place to dry. After the cut heals, apply carbendazim on the cut and then put it in a pot for maintenance. Don't rush to water, otherwise the roots will not be able to adapt. Just keep the soil moist when potting.

If leaves fall off in the summer, you can provide appropriate shade to avoid direct sunlight and place it in a place with mild light for a while.
