Cultivation methods and precautions of stinking begonia

The stinking begonia is very easy to grow. There are many varieties of stinking begonias and the flower colors are also very rich. If you cultivate it on the balcony, it is recommended to choose upright and hanging begonias. The stinking begonia only blooms during the Spring Festival and has a relatively high ornamental value.

How to grow stinking begonia

1. Temperature

The temperature range that is more suitable for the growth of stinking begonias is 15-29 degrees, so in winter, the temperature must be kept above 10 degrees so that the stinking begonias can grow normally.

2. Moisture

Adequate water supply is needed to maintain the growth of stinking begonias. In spring and autumn, the plants grow vigorously, so you can increase the amount of watering. In summer and winter, you should reduce the amount of watering and keep the soil slightly moist. Follow the principle of watering when the soil is dry and avoid over-watering.

3. Soil

The stinking begonia needs to grow in loose, fertile, well-drained and breathable soil. Different substrates such as peat, leaf mold, fine perlite, etc. can be mixed in appropriate proportions.

4. Lighting

The stinking begonia has a high demand for light and needs sufficient light to carry out photosynthesis, ensure the quality of its flowering, and avoid excessive growth of stems and leaves. It needs shade in summer, but can receive full-day sunlight at other times.

Matters Needing Attention in the Care of Stinky Begonia

During the growing period of the stinking begonia, you should pay attention to fertilizing it. You can apply dilute fertilizer water to it. In the early stage, nitrogen fertilizer should be used as the main fertilizer. Before the flowering period, the content of phosphorus and potassium fertilizer should be increased. Fertilization should follow the principle of applying thin fertilizers frequently. Excessive fertilization will affect the flowering of the stinking begonia.
