Roses, like humans, also need metabolism, and the way they bloom is by replacing old leaves with new ones. When roses warm up in winter and enter a dormant period, not losing their leaves may not be a good thing. If it is normal for old leaves to fall off, there is no need to worry. After the leaves fall off, new leaves will slowly grow in the spring and accumulate nutrients for the winter, which will be conducive to flowering next year. But if the rose does not lose its leaves in winter and grows few new leaves in spring, the flowering effect will be much worse.

What to do with fallen leaves

First of all, you should know that it is normal for roses to shed their leaves in winter in the north, but in the south, roses are usually evergreen. Because of the difference in climate, the southern region has spring all year round, and many plants grow all year round. If the roses in the south shed their leaves in winter, you should think about this.

In the northern regions, there is only one reason for large-scale leaf drop in roses: too much water leads to root rot. Because roses generally hibernate in winter, their metabolism will slow down significantly and the amount of water they need will decrease accordingly. Watering at this time can easily cause waterlogging and root rot, and leaf fall is inevitable. Control watering and keep the soil in the pot dry. A small amount of leaf fall is normal.
