Why doesn't the gardenia bloom?

Why doesn't the gardenia bloom?

Reason 1: Improper water and fertilizer

During the growth period of Gardenia jasmine, excessive water and fertilizer will cause the plant to grow too tall. If there is insufficient water and fertilizer, the plant will not get enough nutrients for growth, and flower buds will be difficult to form, resulting in no flowering or little flowering. Even if it blooms, the flowers and buds are easy to fall off. In addition, if the plant lacks phosphorus and potassium fertilizers and has too much nitrogen fertilizer, it will also affect the formation of flower buds.

Therefore, during the flower bud differentiation period, pay attention to applying equal amounts of various fertilizers.

Reason 2: Inappropriate lighting

Gardenia likes sunlight, but cannot be exposed to strong light. Improper light (too strong or too weak) will affect flowering.

Gardenia prefers a semi-shaded environment in summer and should be placed in a well-lit place indoors in winter.

Reason 3: High salinity in the soil

Gardenia prefers slightly acidic soil. Relatively speaking, the salt content in the soil in the north is higher, and the soil is alkaline, which will cause the plant to turn yellow and affect flowering.

Before planting gardenias, make the soil acidic. During maintenance, acidic solution is used for irrigation to improve the soil environment.

Reason 4: No pruning for a long time

Gardenia branches have strong vitality. If they are not pruned for a long time, the branches will become messy and full of diseased branches. This situation will prevent the leaves from photosynthesizing and will instead consume more nutrients. The plant has difficulty blooming due to lack of nutrients.

During maintenance, carefully observe the growth of the plants and prune them in time.

Reason 5: Serious pests and diseases

Pests and diseases are the main reasons why plants do not bloom. When pests and diseases are serious, the flower buds will be attacked by pests and diseases and fall off, making it difficult to bloom. So pay attention to insect prevention during the planting process.
