What to do if the lotus rots during the planting period

symptom

Bowl lotus rot is what we usually call rot disease. The disease occurs in the whole plant and gradually spreads to the stems, petioles, leaves and other parts. In the early stage of the disease, the symptoms are mild and difficult to detect with the naked eye. As the disease worsens, one side of the stem will turn brown, the leaves will become lighter in color, and the leaves will dry up until they die.

Conditions of disease

The rot of water lily is not a sudden disease, but the result of long-term latent fungi overwintering in the soil. The fungus lurks in the lotus roots and diseased soil, waiting for the temperature to rise in the spring to erode the plants.

There are differences in the incidence of disease among varieties. Those with deeper root systems have milder disease, but the disease will be aggravated by continuous rain and insufficient sunlight.

Poor soil drainage or high acidity, dirty water or water temperature above 38 °C can easily induce this disease.

Prevention and treatment measures

Select disease-resistant varieties according to local conditions, and make sure the varieties you choose are pure.

Turn the soil in time to increase soil permeability and sprinkle some lime appropriately.

Treat the seed lotus roots before planting, spray them with carbendazim or methyl-thiophanate solution, then wrap them in plastic film and seal them for 24 hours. Take them out, dry them, and then transplant them.

Fertilization should be timely and appropriate, and organic fertilizer and chemical fertilizer should be mixed. At different stages of lotus root growth, the amount of water should be controlled, the depth should be appropriate, and the water temperature should be moderate.
