What to do if the lotus leaves turn black and rot

What to do if the lotus leaves turn black and rot

reason

Overfertilization

Too much fertilizer will cause the soil to be too fertile and relatively dry, the leaves' ability to absorb water will be weakened, and the plant will not get enough water for its own growth. Excessive fertilizer will affect the water absorption of water lily leaves, causing seedling burning and blackening of leaves.

Bacterial infection

During planting, if the soil is not sterilized or the water is not clean, bacteria will breed, affecting the growth of the water lily and causing the leaves to turn black.

Insufficient light

If there is insufficient light indoors, the water lily will be in an overly humid environment, and the lack of light will affect the plant's photosynthesis and the leaves will not grow normally.

Water quality and quantity

Bowl lotus is suitable for growing in acidic soil. If the water is alkaline or dirty during watering, it will change the soil and cause the leaves to turn black.

Another reason is lack of water. If there is less water in the pot and the water lily is not watered in time, the leaves of the water lily will turn black.

Treatment

Repotting and changing soil and water

If too much fertilizer is applied, the water should be changed immediately. Be careful not to change all of it at once. Change half of it each time to reduce the concentration of fertilizer in the water. When changing water, the temperature difference of the water should not be too large, so as not to change the pH and affect the water absorption of the leaves. In addition, if you apply too much fertilizer, you can also repot and change the soil.

If the leaves turn black due to dirty water, it is recommended to repot and change the soil directly, rather than changing the water directly. Otherwise, changes in water temperature and acidity will aggravate the condition. The correct way is to wait until the water evaporates and then add isothermal water.

Please note that the water lily must not lack water during its growing season, otherwise the leaves will easily burn.

Outdoor maintenance

Except in winter, try to keep it outdoors during the day and expose it to more sunlight, but avoid direct sunlight.

Pruning and cleaning

The leaves of bowl lotus are very susceptible to disease during the growth period. Bad leaves should be cut off in time and disinfected with carbendazim. You can also spray with an appropriate amount of diluted pesticide.

Lotus seed rot and seedling burn will also cause the leaves to turn black, so you can pull out the lotus seeds that are rotten and show symptoms.
