Why do Clivia leaves become soft?

Symptoms of Clivia leaves becoming soft

Needless to say, everyone knows the signs that Clivia leaves are becoming soft. The leaves of normal Clivia are upright and grow upward. Once the leaves become soft, they droop down like a person suffering from rickets.

Reasons and solutions for the softening of Clivia leaves

Lack of water

Water shortage is caused by many reasons. Too little watering is the primary reason, but it may also be caused by too loose soil. When the soil is too loose, it is difficult for water to remain on the soil surface, resulting in water accumulation at the bottom and dryness in the upper and middle parts. Therefore, you should water the plant frequently and use the immersion method. Immerse the entire flower pot in water, especially allowing the upper and middle part of the soil to be fully soaked in water.

Excessive shading

Clivia prefers half shade and half sun. Indoor Clivia cannot be completely blocked from light, nor can it be suddenly exposed to the sun. Under excessive sunlight, the leaves will react to the stimulation. In addition, water evaporates quickly under the sun, so the plant will naturally absorb water from the leaves when it lacks water during growth. In daily life, place the plant on a windowsill with glass and screens. If the back window in your home has good light, place it directly on the back windowsill without shading.

There are ultimately two reasons why Clivia leaves become soft: lack of water and excessive light. However, as long as you pay a little attention during maintenance, soft leaves are a minor problem!
