How to plant gladiolus and when is the best time to plant it

1. How to plant gladiolus

1. Turning the soil: If you want gladiolus to grow quickly, bloom more, and produce more cubs, you must plant it in the ground, and plant it in loose and fertile soil. Before planting each time, you must turn the soil and apply fertilizer, and mix farmyard manure such as pig manure, chicken manure, etc. into the soil.

2. Planting: Gladiolus likes sunshine. When planting in the ground, you should choose a place where there are no buildings blocking the light. Bury the bulbs in the soil with the buds facing up and the roots facing down. The thickness of the soil should be 5-10cm. Deep burial is beneficial to keep the flower stems of the plants straight and not easy to fall over. It can also create conditions for the growth of the upper roots.

3. Maintenance: After planting, compact the soil with your hands, water it thoroughly and then you don’t need to worry about it anymore. The gladiolus will grow and bloom on its own. Wait until 1/3 of the stems and leaves on the ground turn yellow in autumn and form a ball. After the ball forms, cut off the dry stems and leaves.

4. Bulbing: Pick out the large small bulbs that grow from the mother bulb, and place the dug bulbs in a cool and ventilated place to dry in the sun. After the two layers of skin of the bulbs fall off, place them in a ventilated and dry place, keeping the temperature not lower than 0℃, and plant the bulbs in the second year.

2. When is the best time to plant gladiolus?

Most modern hybrid gladioli bulbs are spring-planted, meaning they are planted in the spring of each year, bloom in the summer, and harvest the bulbs in the autumn. The bulbs are dormant in the winter, and the bulbs are dug out in late autumn of each year and planted again in the spring of the following year, in an endless cycle.
