Diseases and their control of octopus orchid

Diseases of Octopus Orchid

The main diseases of octopus orchid are base rot, anthracnose, spot disease, brown spot disease, and tip blight. Basal rot mainly occurs at the base of the pseudobulb. When this disease occurs, the cortex at the base of the pseudobulb of the plant will appear light brown or dark brown. In severe cases, the leaves will gradually wither.

Anthracnose will harm the new leaves that grow that year. The spots usually appear at the tips or edges of the leaves. This disease is often caused by high humidity, warm temperature and poor ventilation.

Spot disease usually occurs in summer. In the early stage of the octopus orchid being infected with spot disease, there will be light brown spots on the leaves. In the later stage, these spots will expand and cause the leaves to fall off.

When brown spot disease occurs, spots often grow on the leaf edges of the octopus orchid or on the mesophyll tissue between the veins. These spots are generally long and narrow, and some are irregular. The color of the spots is yellow-brown or dark brown.

Tip blight mostly occurs in hot and rainy seasons. The lesions grow at the tips of the leaves and gradually expand inward, causing the leaves to gradually wither and die.

Disease prevention and control methods

First of all, we must do a good job of ventilation. Most of these diseases are caused by fungi, so we must pay attention to ventilation to prevent the growth of bacteria and fungi and prevent the occurrence of diseases from the source. When a disease occurs, you can use pesticides such as benomyl and carbendazim to spray according to the instructions, and be sure to remove the infected leaves to prevent the spread of the disease.
