Prevention and control methods of asparagus fern blight and yellowing disease

Branch blight of Asparagus fern

Dieback disease symptoms

Branch dieback disease harms the branches of asparagus fern, causing its leaves to fall off. In severe cases, the entire plant withers and dies. After a certain period of time, the diseased branches gradually fade into light brown, and then turn into yellow-white, with dense black spots on them.

It occurs during hot and dry periods. Poor cultivation and management, strong direct sunlight or excessive shade, and weak plant growth are the causes of the disease.

Prevention and treatment of branch dieback

one, Eliminate the source of infection. Once the branches of asparagus fern are found to be infected by pathogens, the damaged dead branches should be cut off in time and then burned in a group. To prevent the cut from being infected by bacteria, the cut should be disinfected with alcohol and then coated with Vaseline.

two, Improve cultivation conditions. Control the light conditions. Potted asparagus fern should be placed in a ventilated and sunny place but not exposed to direct sunlight. Strengthen fertilizer and water management to make the plant grow strong and improve its disease resistance.

three, Drug prevention and treatment. In the early stage of the disease, spraying 1% Bordeaux mixture, or 800 times diluted 75% thiophanate-methyl, or 1500 times diluted potassium permanganate has a good preventive and bactericidal effect.

Yellowing disease of Asparagus fern

Chlorosis symptoms

Asparagus fern chlorosis is a physiological disease of plants and is not contagious. The twigs initially turn yellow, which, if not dealt with promptly, often causes all twigs to fall off, and the plant will wither and die.

In the early stage of the disease, the twigs lose their green color, gradually turn yellow and white, and finally turn yellow. The leaves will fall off if you touch them with your hands. The small lateral roots of some diseased plants turn gray and black and rot, with very few new roots. In severe cases, the entire plant dies.

Causes of Chlorosis

Placing or cultivating in direct sunlight that is too strong or in a shaded environment without ventilation and light for a long time; watering too much or excessive drought; applying uncomposted fertilizer or excessive application of chemical fertilizers; the soil texture is heavy and the oxygen supply is insufficient.

Prevention and treatment of chlorosis

one, The substrate for potted asparagus fern should be loose and breathable, rich in humus, to avoid the soil being too sticky and compacted, which would affect the development of the root system. Poor soil quality or improper fertilization can easily cause root rot. When the plant needs to be repotted, replace the old soil and cut off the rotten roots. Then, soak the roots in 0.1% potassium permanganate solution to disinfect and sterilize them before planting.

two, Master the lighting conditions, asparagus fern prefers semi-shady environment. It should be placed in a well-ventilated sunny place without being exposed to direct sunlight.

three, Strengthen water and fertilizer management. Asparagus fern prefers dryness and dislikes moisture, so you should not water it until the soil is dry. When applying fertilizer, use fully decomposed organic fertilizer and adhere to the principle of applying small amounts of fertilizer frequently. Fertilizer should be applied to the soil near the roots and not poured on the plants.
