Pomegranate flower diseases and prevention methods

Pomegranate flower diseases and prevention methods

Pomegranate flower dry rot

symptom

Dry rot can occur from bud formation to fruit ripening, with the peak period being May to June . When the disease occurs, it harms the flowers, pedicels, and fruits. In severe cases, the pomegranate flowers will fall off prematurely. The diseased part turns gray-black, becomes soft, gradually loses water and shrinks, and many small black spots appear in the later stage, causing the fruit to rot.

Prevention and treatment methods

Strengthen maintenance and apply more phosphorus and potassium fertilizers to improve pomegranate's disease resistance.

Clean and prune in time, and cut off diseased branches and rotten fruits in time to avoid the breeding of bacterial infection. Keep warm in winter and avoid frostbite.

If the disease is found, remove the diseased plants in time and spray lime sulfur mixture. Spray 1:1:160 Bordeaux mixture from May to August , once every 15-20 days.

Sooty mold of pomegranate

symptom

Sooty mold disease mainly harms leaves and fruits. Black mycelium will appear on the leaves and fruits, and a layer of soot will stick to the leaves, affecting photosynthesis. The main cause of sooty mold disease is insect feces and secretions, and the disease occurs in an environment with poor ventilation, high temperature and high humidity.

Prevention and treatment methods

During the maintenance period, appropriate pruning, timely ventilation, ensure good light transmission, appropriately reduce humidity, and avoid a stuffy environment.

Take preventive measures and spray lime sulfur mixture on pomegranates during the winter to eliminate overwintering pathogens. Spray 1000 times diluted omethoate at appropriate times to prevent and control pest breeding.

When the plant is sick, spray 500-800 times of mancozeb and spray 4 to 5 times.

Pomegranate brown spot

symptom

Pomegranate brown spot is a fungal disease that mainly harms leaves and fruits, causing flowers and fruits to fall off. When the leaves are infected, small brown spots will appear at first, gradually spreading into a circular shape with black edges, and the back of the leaves will also be covered with spots. Dark brown spots will also appear on the fruit, and the outer edges of the spots will turn light yellow-white after the fruit is colored.

Prevention and treatment methods

Remove diseased leaves and dead branches promptly and burn them in a centralized location to reduce the source of bacteria.

Strengthen maintenance, water reasonably, keep the potting soil slightly moist, and enhance the plant's disease resistance. Spray 5 degrees Baume lime sulfur mixture before budding in spring, and spray 140 times the same amount of Bordeaux liquid after the new branches sprout to take preventive measures. Start spraying in late May , and spray 6 to 8 times at intervals of 10 days.
