Common diseases and pests of African jasmine and their control methods

Diseases of African jasmine

anthrax

Anthracnose mostly occurs on young branches and leaves. Diseased leaves will have nearly circular to irregular sunken spots and many small black particles. We can simply understand these small particles as tools for the bacteria to reproduce the next generation.

In fact, prevention and control is very simple. In the early stage of the disease, spray 800 times diluted 50 % carbendazim wettable powder plus 800 times diluted 25 % thiophanate-methyl wettable powder, alternately spraying once every 10 days, and spray continuously for 3 to 4 times.

Sunburn

Sunscald often occurs in summer because of improper shading at noon in summer. The tender shoots and young leaves are easily burned by long-term sunlight, which manifests as grayish white or light white burn spots on the leaves. The spots gradually worsen, causing leaves to fall off and the entire plant to wilt.

When it comes to prevention and treatment, you must pay attention to shade and change the position when the sun is more intense in summer. When the weather is hot and dry, you should increase the frequency and amount of watering appropriately, and spray water on the leaves if necessary. For plants that have been burned, they should be placed under a shade shed in time, the burned leaves should be cut off, and water and fertilizer management should be strengthened to allow the plants to recover as soon as possible.

African Jasmine Pests

African jasmine is less susceptible to pests, but they do occur occasionally. For example, when the short-fronted grasshopper occurs, it will cause many holes or notches to appear on the leaves of the plant. It should be killed in time by spraying 800 times diluted 90 % dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane crystals.
