When is the best time to sow spring wheat?

The spring wheat area is mainly distributed in the north of the Great Wall. The temperature in this area is generally low and the production season is short, so it is mainly one crop per year. So when is the best time to sow spring wheat? Let’s take a look with the editor below.

1. When is the best time to sow spring wheat?

Spring wheat is grown in places where the winter is very cold. Because it is too cold in winter to sow, it is planted after the spring begins and is called spring wheat. Winter wheat is grown in slightly warmer areas. It is sown in winter and harvested in summer. For example, spring wheat is grown in Northeast my country, while winter wheat is grown in North China and its south.

Spring wheat is sown in late March or early April and harvested in mid-to-late July. Spring wheat has strong drought resistance, short plants, large ears, and a short growing period, making it suitable for spring sowing. The temperature for spring varieties to go through the vernalization stage is relatively high, generally at 7℃-15℃, and it can complete vernalization in 5-8 days. Therefore, if there are no spring varieties suitable for planting, it is advisable to use semi-winter varieties.

2. Planting method of spring wheat

1. Land preparation and fertilization

Choose a site with thick soil layer and previous crops of melons , vegetables, sunflowers , corn, beets, etc. with medium to high fertility for autumn irrigation and winter plowing. Before winter, in combination with winter turning, evenly spread 1-2 cubic meters of high-quality farmyard manure, 3-5 kg of urea, 15-20 kg of ammonium phosphate, 3-5 kg of potassium fertilizer, and 1 kg of zinc sulfate on the ground per mu, and turn it in the entire tillage layer. If the above-mentioned fertilizers are not applied during winter plowing, they can be evenly applied deep into the soil during spring raking and land preparation.

2. Seed mixing

Before sowing, mix evenly with 150g of 40% seed dressing double for every 100kg of seeds. After piled and stuffed for 4 hours, sow immediately. This can effectively prevent the occurrence of wheat loose smut and stinky smut.

3. Sowing period

After the spring, when the locomotive can go to the ground, sowing can be carried out. In principle, the word "early" should be emphasized to lay the foundation for large ears and abundant grains.

4. Sowing method

The sowing rate is 27-30 kg/mu, and 5-7 kg of diammonium phosphate or wheat slow- release fertilizer is used as seed fertilizer per mu. The sowing depth is 4-5 cm, and the seeds must be pressed down to ensure that they are tightly combined with the soil. The sowing bed width is 90-120 cm.

5. Field management

Water the seeds for the first time 25-30 days after sowing, and apply 10-13 kg/mu of urea; water the seeds for the second time 10-15 days after sowing, and apply about 10 kg/mu of urea depending on the condition of the seedlings. The third watering should be done slowly to control ineffective division and excessive growth of wheat seedlings. For the barren Gobi land, according to the condition of the seedlings, when watering the third time, you should also add about 5 kg of urea to the areas with poor growth to lay the foundation for high yield.

The above is an introduction to the most appropriate time to sow spring wheat. Choosing the right sowing time is the key to ensuring the yield and quality of spring wheat. When choosing the sowing time, you need to consider the local climate conditions, soil conditions and the growth characteristics of spring wheat.
