Can boxwood be planted in the north?

Boxwood trees can be planted in the north. This plant is full of vitality all year round and can withstand temperatures as low as -20℃ in winter. There is basically no need to worry about planting them in the open field, as they generally will not be frozen to death.

Boxwood is widely distributed in my country. The plants are heat-resistant and cold-resistant, and mostly grow in valleys, stream banks, and under forests at altitudes of 1,200-2,600 meters. The main producing areas are Hubei, Sichuan, Gansu, Guizhou, Guangxi and other provinces.

How to plant boxwood in the north

1. Water: Boxwood likes moisture, so it needs to be watered in time during maintenance. Watering should be stopped in the later stage of growth to avoid excessive growth of the plant. Watering should be avoided during the hot noon.

2. Soil: Boxwood trees are not very demanding on soil and can be planted in sandy soil, loam, and brown soil. However, it is best to plant soil rich in organic matter, and some organic fertilizer should be added before planting.

3. Fertilization: Boxwood trees have a high demand for nutrients. May to August each year is the vigorous growth period of the plant. Decomposed cake fertilizer water should be applied once a month. In winter, only base fertilizer needs to be applied once.
