Pests of Arrowroot and their control methods

Pests of Arrowroot

The main pests of arrowroot are scale insects and red spider mites.

Arrowroot scale insect damage

symptom

The main sites of scale insect disease are the edges and backs of leaves, but sometimes they are found on the leaf surface. The main scale insects are mealybugs, which suck the sap of plants with their mouths, causing the leaves to turn yellow, and even cause leaf fall and withering until the plant dies. Scale insects have a strong reproductive capacity and can reproduce many offspring within a year. Scale insects have a waxy outer shell, which makes it difficult for ordinary pesticides to penetrate and kill them, so it is difficult to prevent scale insects.

Prevention and treatment methods

To prevent and control scale insects, it is best to spray pesticides during the period when the insects are most active. During this period, the insects have not been hatched for too long and the wax layer has not yet formed on their bodies, so they can be killed with pesticides. The spraying cycle is about once every 8 days, and spray 3 times in a row.

Damage caused by red spider mites

symptom

Red spider mites are more common than other pests. They are very small and are reddish-brown or orange-yellow in color. They also use their sharp mouths to suck juice from leaves, causing water imbalance in plants and slowing their growth. If the weather is relatively warm, red spider mites reproduce particularly quickly and are the most harmful to the arrowroot calathea.

Prevention and treatment methods

The spiders should be kept growing in an environment with good ventilation and high humidity, and the arrowroot should be sprayed with water frequently to control the reproduction of red spiders. And seize the opportunity to spray pesticides in time.
