Common Pests of Oxalis purpurogenum and Their Control

Common Pests of Oxalis

There are many common pests of purple-leafed Oxalis, such as cinnabar leaf mites, Oxalis rock mites, tobacco thrips, peach aphids, etc. Let us now take a closer look at the hazards and prevention measures of these pests!

Prevention and control measures of purple leaf sorrel pests

Tetranychus cinnabarinus

Vermilion spider mites are also called red spiders, and their peak season is generally from mid-June to mid-August. In autumn, they often live in groups in dead leaves, weeds, cracks in soil clods, and cracks in tree bark. The hot and dry season is the peak period for cinnabar spider mites, so preventive measures must be taken at this time. They will live on the underside of Oxalis leaves, burning them to brown, causing them to wilt, or even stagnate the growth of the plant and lead to the death of the spider.

Prevention and control should be carried out in April. You can spray trichloronate emulsifiable concentrate, and it must be sprayed when the scale is controllable. Regularly trimming the leaves and removing dead flowers and leaves in time can also reduce the occurrence of insect pests.

Oxalis rock mite

Oxalis rock mite is also called Oxalis leaf mite. In the autumn when the temperature is too low, they tend to return to plants to forage for food. Symptoms of the disease include yellow-white or yellow-green spots on the leaves, and severe cases may cause the leaves to wilt. To prevent and control this type of pest, it is better to use 1500 times diluted dimethoate emulsifiable concentrate. Preventing and controlling such pests in advance can reduce the harm to the plants.

Thrips tabaci

Tobacco thrips, also known as onion thrips, are more common in March and April. This type of pest is suitable for surviving in a dry and rainless environment. This type of pest is very harmful to purple-leafed Oxalis, causing the leaves to grow twisted and deformed, and brown spots to appear on the leaves. In severe cases, it can cause the plant's growth to stagnate and eventually die.

You can choose a 1000-fold diluted version of cypermethrin, and you can also use omethoate, but not in excess. Water the plants in time and remove weeds.

Myzus persicae

This type of pest usually causes greater damage to purple-leafed Oxalis in April. Green peach aphids often appear on the young leaves and flower buds of purple-leaved Oxalis, causing the leaves to grow twisted and deformed and the flower buds to shrink.

We can choose imidacloprid and add 150g of water to make a spray, which is more effective. Also, during normal breeding, pay attention to cleaning up dead leaves and flowers, and cut off leaves with insects in time.
