Clove Pests and Control Methods

Lilac pests: leaf miners

symptom

The leaf miner is the main pest of lilac. It mainly parasitizes on the leaves and feeds on them, causing small round or irregular spots to appear on the leaves. The larvae will also sneak into the leaves, forming curved tunnels in the epidermis, causing damage to the leaves, hindering photosynthesis, and causing a large number of leaves to burn, affecting the ornamental effect.

Prevention and treatment methods

In early winter, remove branches and leaves, as well as lichens and mosses from the tree trunks, block the gaps in the tree trunks, keep the place relatively dry during the winter, and do not move the trees frequently.

In early spring, remove diseased and thin leaves, clear away new fallen leaves, and clean up larvae as soon as they are discovered.

During the outbreak period, spray the pesticide in time. You can spray 1000 times diluted Loxban plus penetrant, or 2000 times diluted Avermectin. Alternating between several pesticides will achieve better results.

Clove Pests: Scale Insects

symptom

Lilacs are easily harmed by scale insects, which mainly damage the branches of lilacs. When the branches are covered with densely packed white insects, you would never imagine that these are the lilac flowers you have worked so hard to grow. When scale insects cause serious damage, the leaves will wither and black spots will appear on the branches.

Prevention and treatment methods

During the maintenance process, if you find small white insects on individual branches, you can use a soft-bristled brush to remove them, or simply cut off the branches. Brushing and cutting cleanly can avoid serious insect infestation.

When the larvae are observed to be active, immediately spray 80% DDT diluted 1000-1500 times or pyrethroid pesticides once every two weeks. Repeat twice and the effect will be significant.
