Dahlia Pest Control Methods

Dahlia Pest Control Methods

Acanthocephala dahliae

symptom

The locust, commonly known as the grasshopper, is widely distributed and harms flowers such as Impatiens, Celosia, Salvia, Pansy, Snapdragon, Globe amaranth, Calendula, Zinnia, daisy, chrysanthemum, Echinacea, rose, jasmine, hibiscus, dahlia, gardenia, etc. Early instar nymphs like to gather together to feed on leaves, leaving them in a net-like pattern. Later they disperse to feed, causing notches and holes in the leaves. In severe cases, only the main veins are left on the entire leaf.

Prevention and treatment methods

When the first-instar nymphs cause damage in large numbers, they are killed manually.

Spray 1000 times diluted 50% cypermethrin emulsion or 1000 times diluted 25% phosmet.

Dahlia willow bat moth

symptom

The willow bat moth, also known as the oriental bat moth, belongs to the order Lepidoptera, family Mephidae. It is mainly distributed in Heilongjiang, Jilin, Liaoning, the former Soviet Union, Japan and other places, and harms many kinds of flowers and trees. The larvae bore into branches and trunks. The openings of the boreholes are often concave and ring-shaped, and are filled with sawdust from a silk screen, forming sawdust bags.

Prevention and treatment methods

Cut away seedlings and branches with bags of sawdust.

When the first-instar larvae are active on the ground from late May to early June , spray the ground with 1000 times diluted 50% parathion. When the middle-aged larvae move into the tree trunk, drip 10 times the diluted 50% DDT into the insect holes.
