How to prune the roots of Clivia

How to prune the roots of Clivia

1. Clear the soil

First, when repairing its roots, you need to dig it out and cut off its water supply for about seven days. Second, when digging it out, you can gently tap the outside of the pot to better separate the soil from the pot, making it easier to take it out with the soil. Third, clean most of the dirt on the roots, and then use water to wash away the dirt that cannot be cleaned until it becomes clean.

2. Prune rotten roots

First, because its roots are fleshy, although the roots look thick, they are very soft and easy to break. Second, it often grows some rotten roots, which may even affect its life if they are not cleaned in time. Third, when pruning the roots, clean up the rotten roots first. If the entire root is rotten, you need to cut them all off. If only a part of it is rotten, you can cut it off with a sterilized knife.

3. Prune empty roots

If a plant survives for a long time, after many years of growth, its roots will easily become empty and only a shell will remain. Some old roots are darker in color, but they are very weak and cannot provide nutrients to the leaves well. Instead, they consume nutrients and become rotten roots, so the empty roots must be cleared away entirely.

4. Tips for root pruning

No matter what kind of roots it is, if you can clean them directly with your hands, don't use tools, because the roots are very delicate and tools can easily cause serious wounds to them. Using your hands can make the wound relatively smaller and cause less damage to it. If the wound area is too large, it is easy to be infected by bacteria.
