How to deal with yew root rot

How to deal with yew root rot

1. Caused by excessive watering

When caring for yew, watering is the most important thing to pay attention to. Friends who know it should know that it is not a waterlogged plant. On the contrary, it is more drought-resistant. If you don’t master these little knowledge, you will easily make the mistake of watering it too much, which will make the soil in the pot too moist, causing the oxygen in the pot to gradually decrease. At this time, the respiration of the roots will become slow or even stagnant, the breathing method will change and alcohol will be produced. The roots will also rot as a result. In severe cases, the entire plant will die.

Solution: When watering, try to water it thoroughly at once, and don't water it continuously every day. Sometimes some friends will water it according to the condition of the potting soil. When they find that the surface of the potting soil is dry, they will water it immediately. In fact, this is wrong. Sometimes the dry surface of the potting soil does not mean that the inner soil is also dry. In addition, in order to prevent its roots from rotting, you can add a little anti-root rot agent when watering it, and the concentration of the agent should not be too high. Just do it in small amounts and multiple times.

2. Use of raw fertilizer or excessive fertilization

When choosing fertilizer, some friends do not pay attention. Sometimes they blindly apply the fertilizer to the plants before it is fully decomposed. This can easily burn the roots and cause root rot. Or you don't pay attention to the amount when applying fertilizer, and just blindly supplement it with nutrients. Little do you know that this will easily cause the plant to have an overnutrient surplus. Once the nutrients are too abundant, the roots will not be able to absorb them normally and the roots will rot.

Solution: When applying fertilizer, try to choose well-rotted fertilizer, and apply it in small amounts and multiple times.

3. Caused by insufficient light

Although yew is shade-tolerant, if it is kept in a dark place for a long time, it will not be able to receive normal light effects. This will cause a serious lack of nutrients, making the roots always in a hungry state. Over time, the roots will easily rot.

Solution: Every few days, we can place it on the balcony or outdoors to enjoy the sunlight in the morning or evening to ensure the roots have normal nutritional needs.

4. Caused by underground pests or diseases

In a high temperature and humid environment, yew trees are prone to breeding diseases or underground pests, which will directly affect the roots, especially underground pests, which constantly gnaw on the roots, causing serious damage and leading to rot.

Solution: ventilate in time and cool down appropriately, and use some insecticides to kill underground pests.
