What to do if the roots of silver-edged spider plant rot

What to do if the roots of silver-edged spider plant rot

1. Causes of root rot

1. Too much watering

If your Chlorophytum comosum only has slight root rot, it is probably caused by overwatering. If you water it too much, the soil will be too wet, which will make the roots prone to oxygen deprivation, and root rot will naturally occur.

2. Too little light

Some people always keep it indoors for a long time when raising it, and do not let it enjoy the light from time to time, so it will lack sunlight for a long time. Everyone knows that any plant can no longer grow normally after leaving the sunlight. In mild cases, the leaves of the plant will become dull and the roots will rot. In severe cases, the whole plant will die. So it is the same for it. If there is too little light, the water will evaporate very slowly, which will easily lead to water accumulation and root rot of the plant.

2. Solutions to root rot

1. Root rot is not very serious

If the root rot is not particularly serious, it will be relatively easy to solve. Generally, you should water it less often, starting from once in the morning and evening and gradually reducing it to once a day or two. In this way, the soil will not be too wet, and the symptoms of root rot will gradually improve. In addition to reducing the amount of water, you also need to allow it to receive appropriate sunlight exposure. Be careful not to leave it in the sun for too long. Two hours is enough. This way, the symptoms of root rot will gradually improve.

2. For severe root rot

If the symptoms do not improve after you reduce the amount of watering and expose it to the sun appropriately, then we can consider using some nutrient solution. When using, the amount should not be too much to avoid the opposite effect. In addition, if we have time, we'd better cut off the rotten roots in time to prevent the breeding of pathogens. After cutting off the rotten roots, we also need to change the soil in the pot to ensure that it continues to grow.
