How does Bougainvillea survive the winter?

How does Bougainvillea survive the winter?

1. Control the temperature

The most important thing when growing bougainvillea in winter is to control the temperature. Because the temperature in winter is very low, if it is not controlled well, the plants will be frozen, affecting their growth in the next year. Specifically, it is recommended to move it to a place with an indoor temperature of about 15℃ before the temperature drops to 5℃. Wait until the temperature rises to around 15-20℃ next year before considering going out.

2. Ventilation and lighting

In winter, you need to pay attention to ventilation. Because winter is very cold, people usually don’t open windows for ventilation at home. If you keep it in a place with poor ventilation for a long time, it will not grow well. Therefore, you should pay attention to opening windows and ventilating regularly. In addition, when caring for it, you should also pay attention to allowing it to receive more sunlight at this time. This can help it synthesize more nutrients, which is also very beneficial for it to survive the winter.

3. Control water and stop fertilizer

In winter, its growth rate will slow down and it will not be as fast as in spring and autumn, and it requires less water and nutrients than in spring and autumn. Therefore, at this time, attention should be paid to reducing the supply of water and nutrients. Control watering appropriately and stop fertilizing, allowing it to use the nutrients in the soil to sustain life. This can prevent excessive water and fertilizer from damaging its root system. When the temperature rises next year and its growth accelerates, you can increase the frequency of watering and resume fertilizing.
