What to do if the roots of tiger plant rot

What to do if the roots of tiger plant rot

Causes of root rot

Overwatering

The root system of Tiger Skin Orchid is underdeveloped and has fleshy roots, so it is often planted shallowly. Some flower lovers water it too much, and the moisture in the potting soil cannot evaporate in time, which will cause the roots of the Tiger Skin Orchid to rot over time.

Long-term lack of soil replacement

The soil of Sansevieria is usually changed every two years. If it is not changed for a long time, the nutrients in the soil will be exhausted and the air will be scarce, which will hinder the breathing of the roots and cause root rot. In addition, if fertilization is applied for a long time, the fertilizer effect cannot be completely evaporated and will accumulate in the potting soil, seriously affecting the growth of the root system.

Poor ventilation in the growing environment

Tiger Piranha does not require much light, but the environment must be well ventilated. If the plant is in a hot and stuffy condition for a long time, the leaves will not be able to absorb water, which will also affect the growth of the root system.

Pests and diseases

During its growth, Sansevieria will be harmed by root rot and nematodes, causing root injury and rot.

Treatment

Change pots frequently

Repot the plant every two years, replace half of the soil with new one, and disinfect the soil by exposing it to the sun or watering it with fungicides. Choose fertile, loose, well-drained, humus-rich soil.

Water less

Tiger Piranha does not need a lot of water to grow, just make sure the soil in the pot is moist. If you don’t know how much water to water, you can use the immersion method to water the plant, which can reduce water accumulation in the pot. Reduce watering in winter.

Replanting

For the snake plant whose roots have rotted, it can be replanted in the pot. First, clean the rotten parts of the roots. If conditions permit, use fungicides such as carbendazim to sterilize them. Then dry them in a cool place and replant them to take root ( it is recommended to use plain sand + vermiculite + peat, etc. to take root in the cutting medium before planting ) .

If the roots of the snake plant are severely rotten and the soil ball has an odor, you must wash off the old soil, cut off the rotten roots, and replant it. Before planting, soak the roots in 800 times potassium permanganate solution to prevent decay and promote root growth. After planting, place them in a cool place for a week to grow slowly. During this period, stop fertilizing and control watering.
