Causes and treatments for yellow leaves of Oxalis

As a perennial herb, Oxalis prefers a growing environment with sufficient sunlight and warmth but not dryness. However, it is more prone to yellow leaves, so it is necessary to find the cause and prescribe the right remedy.

1. Lack of water for growth

Reason: Although Oxalis likes sunlight, its growth cannot be separated from a large amount of water, especially during the growth period of Oxalis, it needs more water. Water it at least once a day during maintenance. If the water supply is not met, the leaves will become dry and yellow.

Measures: For the water shortage problem of Oxalis, the immersion method should be used to replenish water. The specific operation method is to put three to four centimeters of water in a small basin, then put the pot for growing Oxalis in it, and let water seep in through the holes at the bottom. It only takes half a day for the leaves to recover.

2. Improper lighting problem

Reason: If Oxalis is grown in a dark room, its leaves will turn yellow due to lack of sufficient light. But on the other hand, if you suddenly place Oxalis in an environment with overly strong sunlight, it will cause the leaves to burn and turn yellow.

Measures: Because Oxalis likes light and needs a sufficiently moist growing environment, you can place it on a balcony with sufficient ventilation and sunlight, and rotate the pot from time to time to ensure even light. When the sun is strong at noon, you can cover it with a plastic bag to block the light.

3. Leaf spot problem

Cause: Leaf spot disease mainly infects the leaves of the plant, causing red and brown spots to appear on the leaves, thus affecting the growth of Oxalis until the leaves of the entire plant wither.

Measures: If adjusting the light and replenishing water do not improve the yellowing leaf problem of the flowers, you should consider using chemical control methods. On average, spraying with benomyl solution every two to three days can improve the yellow leaf problem.

However, the yellowing of leaves is also a normal metabolism of plant growth. If only a small number of yellow leaves appear, don’t be too anxious, just pick them off. Be careful to identify the problem so as to prescribe the right remedy.
