Causes and treatments for yellow leaves of bamboo palm

Palm bamboo is one of the common ornamental plants in my country. It is often placed in living rooms and courtyards. It looks very beautiful, but if the leaves of palm bamboo turn yellow, it will affect the overall look and feel, and this problem needs to be solved.

1. Improper watering

Reason: The amount of watering for the bamboo palm must be controlled. Whether watering too much or too little, it will have a bad effect on the growth of the bamboo palm root system and hinder its breathing. When it lacks water, the leaves will show signs of drying up.

Measures: If there is too little water, increase watering. If there is too much water, remove the plant from the pot, cut off the rotten roots, and repot it. Normally, you should spray the bamboo palm with water regularly, and water it thoroughly whenever you water it, so that the soil becomes moist but not sticky. At the same time, increasing the humidity of the air will help restore the yellowing leaves.

2. Too much light

Reason: Bamboo palm is suitable for growing in a semi-shaded and relatively humid environment and cannot accept direct sunlight. If the sunlight is too strong, yellow spots will appear on the part of the leaves exposed to the sunlight, which is a symptom of burns.

Measures: For brown bamboo whose leaves turn yellow due to too strong light, just move it to a cooler place, away from direct sunlight, and ensure that it has partial light.

3. Improper fertilization

Cause: As with watering, over-fertilizing or under-fertilizing the bamboo palm can cause the leaves to turn yellow. If too little fertilizer is applied, the bamboo palm will turn yellow due to lack of nutrients, while too much fertilizer will cause the bamboo palm to be burned, the tips of the new leaves will turn brown, lose their luster, and gradually turn yellow and fall off.

Measures: If the leaves turn yellow due to excessive fertilization, stop fertilizing immediately and flush away the fertilizer with water. Fertilization should be appropriate. During the growing season, apply thin liquid fertilizer once every fifteen to twenty days, avoiding the leaves, and try to choose the evening.

4. The soil is too alkaline

Reason: Dracaena prefers acidic, loose and fertile soil. If Dracaena grows in the north, its leaves will easily turn yellow. Because the soil in most parts of northern my country is alkaline and easily compacted, it cannot provide enough nutrients for the growth of bamboo palm, resulting in its slow growth and scorched leaves.

Measures: If the soil is too alkaline, you can add some lemon water or diluted vinegar water from time to time to neutralize the acidity and alkalinity in the soil and make the soil gradually become acidic. In this way, the yellowing leaves can gradually recover.
