How to make leaf humus and how long does it take to decompose

1. How to make leaf humus

1. Collect fallen leaves: There will be a lot of fallen leaves piled up on the roadside in late autumn and under the broad-leaved forests in winter. We can find a large plastic bag and sweep all the fallen leaves under the trees on the streets and in the parks home. This will provide the raw materials for making leaf mold.

2. Leaves composting: Pile the swept leaves in a used barrel, compact it after it is full, cover the top with a layer of fine soil, wet the fine soil and leaves with water, but do not allow water to accumulate. Pour out the leaves and turn them over every month.

3. Add soil to the pile for fermentation: The fermentation of fallen leaves is slow. You can also find a bucket with a lid, put a layer of soil at the bottom of the bucket, then a layer of fallen leaves, then another layer of soil, then a layer of fallen leaves, until the bucket is full. Make sure the top layer is soil. Pour some water to wet the soil, seal it and place it in a high temperature place.

2. How long does it take for leaf humus to be decomposed?

1. Successful composting: The time it takes for leaf mold to compost is related to the season and temperature. It can be composted in three months when the temperature is high in summer, and at least half a year when the temperature is low in winter. It is best to judge whether it is composted by the state of the soil. Generally, when the leaves are almost rotten and turned into black fine soil, it means that it is well composted.

2. Sun disinfection: It is best to expose the fermented leaf mold to the sun for three days before use. Turn it over frequently during this period to kill the bacteria and insect eggs in the soil, and then mix it with other flower-growing substrates.
