Let’s learn below when is the best time to plant ginseng fruit?

When is the best time to plant ginseng fruit?

The planting time of ginseng fruit depends on the local climatic conditions. Ginseng fruit is suitable for planting in spring and autumn, and it is more suitable when the temperature is between 15-28℃. Specifically, open-field planting in South China is generally carried out in April, begins to bear fruit in mid-to-late May, and is ripe for picking in July-August. In the case of greenhouse cultivation, it can be cultivated in early February or mid-August. It will bloom and bear fruit in one year, and the fruit will mature in September-November every year.

When planting ginseng fruit in spring, deep plowing should be carried out before winter, with a plowing depth of about 25cm. Freezing and drying the soil in winter can not only kill the pathogenic spores, eggs and pupae in the ground, but also loosen the soil, enhance the soil's ability to retain water and fertilizer, and improve soil fertility. Before spring planting, spring ploughing is carried out to level the fields to help conserve moisture. On this basis, ditches are dug and ridges are made, and the appropriate ridge type is selected according to local climatic conditions.

What soil and water conditions are required for growing ginseng fruit ?

1. Soil conditions

Ginseng fruit has a wide adaptability to soil, but it prefers fertile soil with deep soil layer, good drainage and rich in organic matter. You should choose loose, breathable, fertile, well-drained sandy soil, and add an appropriate amount of base fertilizer to the soil before planting. The pH value of the soil also has a certain influence on the growth of ginseng fruit. The suitable pH value range is 5.5-6.5.

2. Moisture conditions

Ginseng fruit likes a humid environment and has a high demand for water. The soil needs to be kept moist, but excessive watering should also be avoided to cause root rot. When the soil moisture content is 80%, ginseng roots gain weight quickly and grow better quality. However, when the soil moisture content is less than 60%, the ginseng roots will often burn. Stagnant water can also cause serious consequences. Ginseng roots are prone to rot if water accumulates for a long time. Water management is very important for ginseng fruit trees, which are usually watered 2-3 times a week, adjusted according to weather conditions and soil moisture.

To sum up, the best time to plant ginseng fruit is spring and autumn. The specific time should be adjusted according to local climatic conditions and planting methods to ensure that ginseng fruit can grow under suitable temperature and soil conditions.
