Which month is the best for sowing fruit cucumbers?

As the saying goes, it is the best time to plant melons and beans around the Qingming Festival. After the Qingming Festival is the Grain Rain Festival. During the period from Qingming to Guyu, the average temperature in many parts of the country has reached above 15 degrees. This is the best time to plant fruits and vegetables . Therefore, fruit cucumbers are generally planted in April and May, and seedlings are usually raised in advance, so fruit cucumbers can be sown in March.

How to grow fruit cucumbers

1. Soil preparation for seedling cultivation

The soil for raising seedlings can be soil that has been used to grow flowers or vegetables before, but it must be disinfected by sunlight to reduce the number of pathogens in the soil, and it must be finely ground to facilitate germination.

2. Seed treatment

The seeds must be processed before sowing. They should be blanched in warm water at 50 to 55 degrees for 15 to 25 minutes, then soaked in warm water at 15 to 35 degrees for 4 to 6 hours, and then placed in an environment of 28 to 30 degrees to germinate. They can be sown when the radicle is exposed.

3. Planting seeds

Use tweezers to place the seeds flat on the watered seedling medium or seedling soil according to the density, being careful not to damage the buds. Then cover the seeds with a layer of fine soil or medium. If fine soil is used, the thickness should be about 0.4 cm. If medium is used, the thickness should be 0.8 cm. Seedlings will emerge about 3 days after sowing. After emergence, water them according to the soil condition.

4. Transplantation

When the fruit cucumber seedlings grow to have 3-4 true leaves, they can be transplanted. It is best to transplant and plant them in the morning on a sunny day to help the seedlings grow slowly. Note that it is best to cover the cucumber seedlings with soil to increase the survival rate and allow the seedlings to grow quickly and steadily. The planting depth should be such that the seedling ball is 0.2 cm above the cultivation soil surface, and then water it thoroughly.

5. Post-management

Water once during the seedling growth period, and pay attention to loosen the soil in time to prevent the soil from becoming compacted. Cucumbers like a moist soil environment. Water them in time when the soil is slightly dry, but be careful not to water too much. Fertilization should be combined with watering. During the peak fruit-bearing period of fruit cucumbers, fertilizer is generally applied once every 15 days or so. Organic fertilizers such as cake fertilizer can be applied. In the later stage of fruit cucumber production, the absorption capacity of the root system weakens. At this time, you can use foliar spraying to fertilize the fruit cucumber. It is recommended to spray with 0.2%~0.3% potassium dihydrogen phosphate solution.
