The flower pot is too deep, what should I put at the bottom? (What should I put at the bottom of a deep pot?)

Large flowerpots are often used to plant potted plants with shallow roots or shorter plants. If all the nutrient soil is used, it would be a waste. Therefore, some substrate is often placed at the bottom during the process of growing vegetables and flowers, especially in large and deep pots.

Now let me introduce several commonly used basin materials:

① Put a small pot inside a large pot, and a shallow pot inside a deep pot.

When planting some flowers, only large and deep flowerpots will look better. The simplest method is to put a shallower smaller flowerpot into a deep flowerpot, leaving a larger gap at the bottom.

This is why sometimes when you buy a large flowerpot there are several small flowerpots buried inside it.

Some flowers need moisturizing and can grow well in a very small flowerpot. Place the small flowerpot in the middle of a large flowerpot and fill the surrounding with substrate, and they will easily grow out of the pot.

Some people place flower pots inside artworks to increase the artistic effect and make them appear more upscale.

2. Mesh pad.

Large-hole flower pots are prone to soil leakage, so a layer of non-woven fabric, window screen or other mesh or mesh pad should be placed at the bottom, and then the substrate should be filled. Non-woven fabric should be used to separate the substrate to prevent the nutrient soil from gradually falling into the lower substrate and reducing the depth of the soil layer.

③Ceramic clay

Small flower pots are generally filled with purchased expanded clay. The appropriate thickness is selected according to the type of flowers planted. After covering with a layer of non-woven fabric, nutrient soil is then filled.

For smaller flowerpots, you can also use coconut bran, tiles, pebbles, broken bricks, coal slag, loofah pulp, peanut shells, melon seed shells, fallen leaves, etc. instead of expanded clay .

5. Large and deep flower pots can be filled with sponges, crushed foam, mineral water bottles, solid wood sawdust, whole pieces of honeycomb briquettes, red bricks, pebbles, charcoal, walnut shells, chestnut shells, acorn shells, newspapers, dead leaves, palm bark, pine bark, pine needles, pine cones, etc. as substrates and covered with nutrient soil.

Nowadays, it is popular to utilize all kitchen waste, including leftover vegetable leaves, vegetable roots, leftover rice and vegetables, waste oil in the range hood, tea dregs, rice washing water, noodle soup, etc.

Mix indoor garbage, fruit peels, peanut shells, melon seed shells, fallen leaves with garden soil, then add orange peels, lemon peels or orange peels, and place them directly in large, deep flower pots to compost. After preparing the nutrient soil, you can grow vegetables and flowers.

Of course, you can also put these at the bottom of a large and deep flowerpot, then cover it with a layer of garden soil, and finally cover it with nutrient soil to plant flowers. Even if heat is generated, the roots will not burn.
