Camellia's requirements for light and soil

Camellia's requirements for light and soil

1. Requirements for lighting

It is a light-loving plant and has a high demand for light. Except for blocking the scorching sun in summer, it should be placed in a well-lit place and get more sun in other seasons. The high temperature and strong light in summer can easily burn the leaves, so they should be avoided in time. It grows vigorously in spring and autumn, and is also in the flowering stage. It is best to give it full-day sun, which can promote the differentiation of flower buds and better flowering in the later period. The temperature is low and the light is weak in winter, so only by getting more sun exposure can you ensure a safe winter.

2. Requirements for soil

During the cultivation period, loose, well-drained, fertile soil should be used, and it must be acidic and not too alkaline. You can prepare it yourself, mixing peat soil, river sand and garden soil, and then adding an appropriate amount of organic fertilizer to increase the nutrients. This will basically meet the needs and ensure vigorous growth in the later stage. In addition, when watering in the later stage, pay attention to regularly adding an appropriate amount of ferrous sulfate, which can maintain acidity and is beneficial to growth.

3. Notes

Its cold resistance is relatively poor, so if you want it to grow normally, you must control the temperature in winter. If it is in a low temperature environment, it will affect growth and flowering, and the flowering period will be delayed. A lot of nutrients are consumed during the growth period, so it is necessary to apply fertilizers and topdressing in time to ensure sufficient nutrients. In addition, if it is a potted plant, the pot should be changed every one or two years.
