Asparagus , also known as asparagus and asparagus, is a perennial root plant of the Liliaceae family. The tender stems are mainly eaten, with tender texture, delicious flavor and rich nutritional value. It is known as the "king of vegetables " and has broad planting prospects. So how many years does it take to harvest asparagus? Let’s learn more about it below. How many years does it take to harvest asparagus? Asparagus has a very good planting benefit. It can usually be planted in the current year and harvested in the second year. Moreover, it can be harvested continuously for 8-10 years after planting once. The harvesting standards are generally: tender stem length 10-15 cm, diameter about 0.6-1 cm. Key points of asparagus harvesting 1. Harvest time The best time to harvest is generally before 9 am, and avoid harvesting in strong sunlight. 2. Harvest When harvesting, select about 3 strong young stems that are evenly distributed, free of pests and diseases from each plant, and harvest all the other young shoots. Stop harvesting around mid-August, clear the plants and replace the heads, leaving enough autumn stems. After leaving enough autumn stems, continue to harvest young bamboo shoots according to their growth. 3. Post-harvest management (1) Timely ridge removal: This should be done during a period without heavy rain in the near future. When removing ridges, all tender stems can be harvested, and care should be taken not to damage the above-ground stems and scale buds. When removing ridges, it is not advisable to remove all the soil flat. It is necessary to keep ridges 5-10 cm thick in the shape of a turtle's back. (2) Top dressing and rejuvenation: Before the harvest is about to end, apply local fertilizers into the asparagus furrows and bury the fertilizers in the soil during ridge removal. Apply 4,000 to 5,000 kg of local fertilizers and 40 to 50 kg of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium compound fertilizers per mu. (3) Watering in a reasonable manner: water the ridges instead of covering the top of the plant. Apply sufficient base fertilizer before laying ridges, and water after the tender asparagus stems emerge from the ground. Watering too early can easily damage the roots and stems , causing the plant to die. (4) Intertillage and weeding: After harvesting, cut off and clean up the yellowed stems and leaves and diseased residues on the ground, and transport them outside the field for centralized treatment. During the dormant period, shallow tillage and soil cultivation should be carried out, and various weeds in the surrounding area should be removed in time. Generally speaking, asparagus can usually be harvested in the second year of planting, and the average yield per mu can reach about 2,000 kilograms, making it a good planting project for getting rich. But be careful not to neglect management after the asparagus is harvested. You should actively carry out work such as removing ridges, fertilizing, watering, and tilling the soil to lay a good foundation for next year's yield.
