Tulip watering precautions, how often to water tulips

Tulip watering precautions, how often to water tulips

1. Watering time

Tulips are bulbous plants that prefer warm climates and go dormant in summer and winter, so they are usually watered in spring and autumn. Autumn is the planting season, and proper watering is needed to maintain moisture, but watering should be controlled during the rainy season. Spring is the time for plants to grow and bloom, and sufficient water should be provided before flowering.

2. Watering interval

Tulips are usually watered once every three days. Watering too frequently can easily cause water accumulation, which can lead to bulb rot. Watering too little can easily slow down their growth. If the air humidity is high, watering can be less frequent. If the climate is very dry and the water is lost quickly, you can water it more appropriately.

3. Water temperature and water quality

When watering after sowing in autumn, pay attention to the water temperature. Do not use too cold water, otherwise it will freeze. Generally, it needs to be left for a while, waiting for the water temperature to approach room temperature before use. This also helps to evaporate the chlorine in the water. Since the plant likes acid, it is more appropriate to irrigate it with slightly acidic water such as rainwater or river water. You can also add white vinegar to the water to acidify it.

IV. Precautions

Tulip bulbs are very afraid of moisture. If they are watered too much, the roots will easily rot. At this time, it is necessary to drain the accumulated water in time, strengthen environmental ventilation, and loosen the soil appropriately to allow the moisture in the soil to evaporate as soon as possible. If the root rot is severe, you can remove the plant from the pot, trim the rotten parts with scissors, and then replant it with new soil.
