Cherries are a cultivated variety of European sweet cherries . They have won wide favor among consumers for their sweet and refreshing taste and rich nutritional value. They have also become a new favorite in the New Year market and have high planting benefits. So what month are cherries ripe? Let’s learn more about it below. What month are cherries in season? The ripening season of cherries varies depending on the origin and variety. Among them, domestic cherries generally mature from March to July; American cherries from August to September; and Chilean cherries from November to February of the following year. Key points for management of cherry fruit during its ripening period 1. Pruning management During the cherry fruit ripening period, the main purpose of pruning is to adjust the tree structure, improve the ventilation and light conditions inside the crown, concentrate nutrients, and promote fruit development and flower bud formation. Specific technical measures include: (1) Thinning branches: Mainly remove large branches that affect ventilation and light transmission and have no value, as well as overcrowded small branches. In particular, the upright strong branches within the crown, the backbone branches outside the crown, and perennial branches should be thinned out from the base. (2) Pinching: Pinch the back branches, main branch extensions, lateral branches and vigorous branches on the main trunk to control branch length, promote the formation of short branches and increase the fruiting rate. (3) Pulling branches to open the angle: By pulling branches to open the branch angle, the tree vigor can be relaxed, short branches can be promoted, and flower bud differentiation can be promoted. 2. Moisture management During the fruit ripening period, it is necessary to control soil moisture to prevent the fruit from cracking. Keep the soil moisture at 70%-80%. Avoid sudden changes in wetness or dryness, which will cause the peel to crack due to different expansion pressures inside and outside. 3. Fertilization management Before flowering, apply 0.8-1 kg of high-nitrogen compound fertilizer per plant; during the fruit-swelling period, apply 1.2-1.5 kg of high-nitrogen and high-potassium fertilizer per plant; immediately after harvesting, apply stable fertilizer, such as livestock and poultry manure and urine, and add appropriate amount of fertilizer. The application amount is 40-50 kg/plant. 4. Protect flowers and fruits The purpose is to increase the fruit set rate of strong fruits. The main measures include: artificial assisted pollination; using insects to visit flowers for pollination; spraying plant hormones, such as gibberellin (GA3), PP333, and green fenwei foliar fertilizer . 5. Picking at the right time Choose to pick in the morning or evening when the temperature is lower, and avoid high temperatures. After picking, cherries can be graded and stored according to size, color, etc. for easy sale and consumption. In general, the cherry ripening season is affected by many factors such as origin and variety. But no matter what season the cherries ripen, management work during the ripening period should be taken seriously to ensure a high yield of cherries.
