Rhododendron cutting time

The time for taking cuttings of azalea varies among different species. For evergreen azalea subgenus plants, the most suitable time for taking cuttings is from late October to November. The most suitable time for deciduous azalea cuttings is from May to August.

A simple method of propagating azalea cuttings

Rhododendron cuttings should be carried out in late spring and early summer. Choose a mother plant and cut it off from the roots, leaving only 2-3 leaves on the top. Cut off the rest of the leaves, soak in warm water for half an hour, insert the branches into the hole and press them down. After watering enough, place them in a cool place for 50-60 days to take root.

How to root azalea cuttings

Azalea cuttings take root quickly. First, you need to select thick flowering branches. It is best to do the cuttings in the morning. Appropriate layering and soaking in rooting water solution can speed up the rooting process.

Long-term rooting: Generally, azalea will take root 1-2 months after cuttings. When cutting, try to use strong branches as much as possible. Such branches have high growth vigor and will take root faster.

How often to water: Newly grafted azaleas should be placed in a place without direct sunlight and sprayed with water for ten consecutive days. However, the amount of water sprayed every day should not be too much, and the soil needs to be kept moist after 10 days.

How long to see sunlight: After the azalea cuttings are cut, place it in a cool place until it gradually receives some light after germination. It will start to take root after about 2 months. After that, shade it for 2-3 hours at noon and it can receive sunlight at the rest of the time.
