How to propagate gentian

Division method

Reproduction time: Division propagation is generally carried out in early April.

Growing environment: Choose a relatively humid and well-ventilated environment for planting. It likes to grow under high temperatures and does not like direct contact with sunlight.

Reproduction method: Dig out the entire root of gentian and divide it into several plants. Each plant should have 1 to 2 new buds. The planting spacing should be about 40 cm * 30 cm. When planting, try not to let the buds expose on the soil surface.

Seed propagation method

Reproduction time: Seed propagation can be carried out in two seasons, autumn and spring. Autumn is usually chosen in November.

Growing environment: Choose a relatively humid and well-ventilated environment for planting. It likes to grow under high temperatures and does not like direct contact with sunlight.

Reproduction method: Seeds selected for reproduction in autumn will generally germinate in the spring of the second year. Be careful not to sow too densely. Same as general sowing method. For seeds chosen for propagation in spring, you need to put the seeds in the soil, and after a winter, dig them out in spring for normal sowing.

Breeding precautions

After planting, water should be applied promptly, but water accumulation should be avoided and attention should be paid to drainage conditions.

Remove weeds in time.

When propagating by sowing, thinning should be done after the seedlings emerge, removing the smaller and weaker ones and leaving the stronger ones to continue growing.

Fertilization can be done during the flowering period.
