Grape is an important fruit economic crop in China, with a very wide planting area. Due to differences in climate and other factors in different places, the planting methods are also different. In addition to natively planted grapes, transplanting can also be carried out. So when is the best time to transplant grape seedlings ? Let’s learn more about it below. The best time to transplant grape seedlings It is best to transplant grape seedlings in autumn, which is the period after the grape seedlings have shed their leaves. If it is an annual grape seedling, you can choose spring. For grape saplings that are more than two years old, it is best to transplant them in autumn (September-October). Technical points of transplanting grape seedlings 1. Soil selection Grape seedlings are highly adaptable to soil, but it is recommended to use sandy loam that is loose, fertile, has good permeability and drainage, and is rich in organic matter. 2. Sapling treatment Before transplanting the grape seedlings, they must be disinfected, have their roots and leaves pruned, be soaked in water to keep them moist, and be transplanted and maintained. For the excavated grape seedlings, proper root and leaf pruning should be carried out to reduce nutrient consumption, pesticides should be sprayed to kill pathogens and insect eggs, and they should be soaked in water for a day to ensure water consumption, and those that are not planted temporarily should be transplanted. 3. Transplanting operation Dig a hole, fix the wooden pole for transplanting the grape vine, dig a hole about 30 cm deep next to the wooden pole, plant the grape vine in the hole, fill and compact the soil; then use wire to connect the main pole of the grape vine to the wooden pole so that the grape vine has something to rely on during its growth. 4. Transplanting points It is better to plant seedlings shallowly rather than deeply, and the depth should be the same as the depth when the roots of the seedlings emerged from the soil last year. 5. Management after transplanting After planting the grape seedlings, it is necessary to pile up the soil in time to protect them from the cold and retain moisture. The thickness of the soil pile should be about 30 cm, which is conducive to retaining moisture and helping the seedlings to safely overwinter. After the late frost period next year, remove the cold-resistant soil and water the plant appropriately. Before the grape seedlings sprout, cut off 2 to 3 buds; after the grapes sprout, wipe off the excess buds and pinch the side shoots; pinch off the main shoots when they grow to about 50 cm. In general, when transplanting grape seedlings, you must pay attention to the time and method of transplanting, so as to effectively ensure the survival rate of the seedlings after transplanting, and at the same time cultivate high-quality and strong seedlings, so as to produce more grape fruits and increase planting yields.
