Ginger planting method and planting time

Ginger planting method and planting time

Big ginger refers to fresh ginger, which is an essential condiment in life. The demand for it is very high and many farmers grow it at home. Here is an introduction to ginger planting methods and planting time .

Ginger planting time

According to the growth characteristics of ginger, ginger can be planted in both the north and south of my country. The planting time in the north is slightly later than that in the south, generally from February to April in the south. Since the temperature in the north is not as high as that in the south during the same period, the suitable planting time is relatively later, and sowing is done in April and May every year.

How to grow ginger

1. Choose ginger variety

Choose ginger pieces with full buds, no disease or pests, healthy and not moldy or spoiled. Each ginger seed should have two strong ginger buds. Generally speaking, larger ginger seeds are more beneficial for higher yields.

2. Site selection and land preparation

Choose sandy loam, loam, and clay loam that are fertile, deep, breathable, rich in organic matter, and have strong water and fertilizer retention capabilities, and try to choose fields for crop rotation. Apply it before digging furrows during deep plowing. Apply 2,000 kg of decomposed organic fertilizer , 65 kg of wood ash, 40-50 kg of high-potassium compound fertilizer , 3 kg of zinc fertilizer, and 2 kg of borax per acre. Deep plowing should be carried out to a depth of 35-40 cm.

3. Planting seeds

Water the soil 1 hour before sowing to keep it moist. Lay the ginger pieces flat, keep the young shoots in the same direction, and press them into the mud. For high-yield ginger, the plant spacing is generally 18-25 cm, and the suitable density is 5000-5500 plants per mu, with about 400-600 kilograms of ginger seeds used per mu.

4. Seedling management

The nutrient demand of ginger seedlings is not very high. If the base fertilizer is applied enough, from germination to the three-pronged fork stage, it is only necessary to apply water-soluble fertilizer containing humic acid to promote root growth twice, which will promote root growth and increase the seedling's resistance to stress. Generally, about 10 days after sowing ginger, ginger sprouts will gradually emerge from the ground. In addition to timely checking the seedlings and filling in the gaps, attention should be paid to the management of field water. Ginger likes moisture but not waterlogging. Small amounts of water should be applied during the seedling stage, and the soil moisture content should be about 80%. In summer, work should be done to prevent heavy rains and drain water in time to avoid the occurrence of ginger blight caused by long-term waterlogging in the field. Putting up a shade net in the summer when the sun is strong can also reduce premature and excessive evaporation of water.

5. Reasonable topdressing

Ginger can be fertilized three times, combined with spraying foliar fertilizer . The first topdressing should be done when the ginger seedlings grow to 25 cm. You can choose organic fertilizer, beneficial microbial fertilizer or use biogas slurry to flush with water. Apply biogas slurry again after about 3 to 4 weeks. After the beginning of autumn, the growth of ginger rhizomes accelerates, and about 35 kg of high-potassium compound fertilizer can be applied per mu of land, with the third topdressing carried out in mid-September.

6. Intertillage to conserve soil moisture

When the seedlings are about 25 cm tall, inter-tillage cultivation can be started. This can be done in several times until the soil is completed before the ginger is covered with ridges. To avoid root damage, no inter-tillage cultivation is done after the ginger is covered with ridges.
