When is the best month to plant Sunshine Rose grape seedlings?

Sunshine Rose grapes have rich sweetness, mellow aroma, stable production and good storage and transportation properties, making them very popular. So when is the best month to plant the Sunshine Rose grape seedlings ? Let’s learn more about it below.

When is the best month to plant Sunshine Rose grape seedlings?

Sunshine Rose grape seedlings can be planted in spring and autumn. The spring planting time is generally in mid-April, when the soil has just frozen and the seedlings are easy to survive when the moisture is good. The autumn planting time is mid-October, and it can grow normally if there are no slow seedlings. The survival rate of autumn planting is higher than that of spring planting because the seedlings are not damaged by humans, the branches and buds are vigorous, and the root system recovers quickly.

How to plant Sunshine Rose grape seedlings

1. Garden selection

It is suitable for growing in well-drained sandy loam and loess. The park should be built in an area with convenient transportation, flat terrain, fertile soil, high groundwater level, long frost-free period and sufficient surrounding labor force, which is conducive to the development of the grape industry.

2. Planting density

The branches of the seedlings are thick and fully mature, the stem thickness is not less than 1cm, and the height is 25-30cm; the root system is well-developed and evenly stretched, with no less than 5 lateral roots, the root length is more than 20cm, and there are no quarantine objects. After the seedlings are planted, a layer of plastic film needs to be covered on the ridge surface to increase the ground temperature and promote root growth, which is conducive to germination and good growth.

3. Build a rain shelter

Rain-sheltered cultivation of Sunshine Rose grapes is a critical technology in grape cultivation, which plays an important role in reducing grape disease infection, increasing fruit set rate, reducing fruit cracking, and improving fruit quality. The rain shelter is generally built with a span of 6m, a dome height of 5m, and a height of 3m between cultivation rows. Each shed is less than 50m long to facilitate ventilation and cooling in summer. The height of the grape rack is 1.7-1.8m, which is convenient for manual pruning and flower and fruit management.

4. Grass growing throughout the garden

Crops such as clover, tall fescue, alfalfa and rapeseed are sown every spring. They are regularly mowed with a brush cutter during the growing season and the grass height is controlled within 30 cm. Planting grass throughout the garden can increase air humidity and has a significant effect on the enlargement of grapes during the grape swelling period. Every autumn, when applying base fertilizer, the planted grass is deep plowed and tilled to increase the organic matter content in the soil and improve the quality of the fruit.

5. Pruning

After the grape seedlings are pruned and planted, the axillary buds above 60 cm at level one should be wiped off, generally completely once a week. When the primary main vine grows to 50cm, set up supports and begin to guide the primary vines onto the shelves. After the first-level vines are put on the shelf, trim the top buds of the first-level vines to guide the side branches to grow in spirals and promote the emergence of fruit branches. Keeping the heads of secondary and tertiary vines that grow well is conducive to multiple fruiting.

6. Fertilization

10 to 15 days after the Sunshine Rose grape seedlings are planted, one bucket of 300 times water-soluble root fertilizer can be used for two acres of land. After the Sunshine Rose grape seedlings grow new leaves, they can be sprayed with organic nitrogen fertilizer or a large amount of balanced fertilizer every 12 to 15 days to promote budding and sprouting. When the secondary vines of the Sunshine Rose grape seedlings are growing too vigorously, spraying 500 times diluted 15% paclobutrazol on the leaves can promote bud differentiation and prevent the seedlings from running.
