Gardenia cutting propagation methods and precautions

Gardenia cutting propagation methods and precautions

Introduction to Gardenia Propagation

Cutting propagation: Gardenia is easy to root, and the survival rate of cutting propagation is relatively high. It is suitable to be carried out between May and June in spring, and the cuttings should be selected from strong and mature branches.

Layering propagation: Layering propagation is mostly carried out in mid-April or during the rainy season. Select one-year-old strong branches from the mother plant and pull the branches into the flowerpot or on the ground.

Sowing propagation: Choose full and ripe fruits as seeds. Cut the seed peel with scissors, take out the seeds, rub them in warm water, mix with wood ash and sow them in the soil, and keep the soil moist.

Gardenia cutting propagation method

Cutting time: Gardenia branches are easy to root. In the warm areas of the south, cuttings are usually taken from March to October, while in the north, cuttings are usually taken from May to June.

Cutting propagation method: Cut healthy and mature branches and insert them into the sand bed. As long as it is kept moist, it is very easy to take root and survive. Water cutting is much better than soil cutting, and the survival rate is close to 100%. Water cutting requires cuttings to be cut and only the top two leaves and the top buds are retained and inserted into a container filled with clean water. Change the water frequently to prevent the cut from rotting. It will start to take root after 3 weeks.

Precautions for propagation of gardenia by cuttings

Healthy branches: Generally, branches grown in the current year are used for cuttings. The length of the cuttings should not be too long. The branches should be cut in one step. The wounds on the branches should be smooth, without burrs or rough edges.

Soil usage: It is recommended to use garden soil, fresh water coarse sand and perlite mixed in a ratio of 4:4:2. This kind of flower soil is loose and breathable, without water accumulation and compaction.

Placement environment: After cuttings, place them in a scattered light location, avoiding strong light at noon. The best growth temperature is between 15 and 30 degrees, and the air humidity reaches 60%.

Watering method: Observe the dryness and wetness of the potting soil when watering, and do not water unless it is dry, and water thoroughly when it is watered. In addition, use the spray method to replenish moisture to the branches and artificially create air humidity.
