Shrimp farming technology and methods

Shrimp farming technology and methods

As a kind of aquatic product with extremely high economic value, the farming technology of shrimp involves many links, including but not limited to pond construction, greenhouse construction, disinfection, shrimp seedling selection, non-toxicity testing, stocking, feeding management , water quality regulation, dissolved oxygen control and disease prevention and control. Let’s learn about shrimp farming techniques and methods.

1. Pond construction

Taking the farming of white shrimp as an example, the pond depth should be kept at around 1.8 meters. The pond should be equipped with a complete water inlet and drainage system, and ensure that there is an adequate water source nearby. At the same time, the nutritional content of the breeding water must meet the growth needs of white shrimp. Fixed-power oxygenation equipment must also be installed in the pond to ensure that sufficient oxygen is provided to the pond within the specified time.

2. Greenhouse construction

The structure of a greenhouse usually adopts a "human" shaped design, which not only simplifies the construction process but also saves materials. Bamboo can be used as a building material because it is easy to install and disassemble, and is recyclable. The thickness of the covering film should be controlled at 0.6-0.8 mm, and it should have good light transmittance, and the color should be milky white.

3. Disinfection

Before releasing the shrimp fry, thorough disinfection must be carried out. Quicklime can be added to the pond for cleaning about 25 days before stocking. After disinfection, add an appropriate amount of bleach to the pond one week in advance, and add an appropriate amount of organic fertilizer , such as pig manure, at the same time.

4. Shrimp fry selection

Since whiteleg shrimp cultured in greenhouses usually live in freshwater environments, shrimp species that are adapted to this environment should be selected. At the same time, according to the breeding conditions of greenhouse ponds, shrimp seedlings with better sales in the market should be selected.

5. Non-toxicity test

After selecting the shrimp fry, non-toxicity testing must be carried out to ensure that all indicators of the shrimp fry meet the standards and prevent them from carrying viruses.

6. Free-range:

Before raising the shrimp, you should put the plastic bag containing the shrimp fry into the pond for 15 minutes to allow the shrimp fry to adapt to the pond water temperature. After they have adapted, the shrimp fry can be gradually released into the pond to reduce stress response and prevent large-scale deaths due to inability to adapt to the new environment. The stocking quantity should be matched to the pond area, and this can be accomplished by setting up fixed grids and stocking a fixed number of shrimp fry in each grid to prevent the shrimp fry from moving around.

7. Feeding and management

Feed the shrimps appropriately according to their growth conditions to ensure that the feeding amount meets their growth needs, avoiding waste caused by overfeeding or growth affected by insufficient feeding. Feeding time should be in line with the shrimp's eating habits to reduce feed waste and lower the impact on pond water quality.

The above is an introduction to the farming methods and technical points of shrimp. Through these meticulous management measures, the success rate and economic benefits of shrimp farming can be effectively improved.
