How to propagate lotus

Seed propagation

In fact, seed propagation is the most commonly used method of growing lotus at home. The specific method is relatively simple. Just soak the opened seeds in water and change the water frequently. They will germinate in about a week and can be transplanted after taking root in two weeks. When transplanting, make sure the water layer is shallow and the lotus leaves are exposed. With a little care, it will bloom that year!

Reproduction by division

The prerequisite for lotus root division propagation is that you have an adult lotus. Mid-March to mid-April is the best time to divide lotus roots. The temperature at this time is suitable and the lotus roots will not be frozen due to the low temperature.

1. Soil preparation

Prepare the soil before planting, mix the potting mud into a paste, do not add any fertilizer, and put it aside for later use. (A little soil is a big deal. Want to know how to prepare the soil and what kind of soil to use for potted lotus?)

2. Take the seed lotus root

Take the prepared lotus root out of the soil, remove the silt and aging rhizomes on the edges, and rinse them with clean water.

plant

When planting, hold the top of the lotus root and insert it into the mud at a 20-degree angle, with the tail lifted up, and do not let water enter the tail. For small varieties plant at a medium depth of 2 inches. Large lotus is about 10 cm deep.

3. Maintenance methods

After planting, place it directly in sunlight. When slight cracks appear on the surface of the soil, add a small amount of water. After the lotus roots sprout, increase the amount of water appropriately to 3 to 5 cm. In areas like the north where the temperature is lower, you can wrap it with plastic film to increase the temperature.
