Pea, also known as green pea, wheat pea, cold bean, wheat bean, snow pea, Bi bean or Ma Lei, is an annual or biennial herb. This plant is widely distributed in many provinces in China, such as Qinghai, Ningxia, Shandong, Inner Mongolia, Sichuan, Jiangsu and Zhejiang, and is a common vegetable in people's daily diet. Let’s learn below: When is the best time to plant peas? When is the best time to plant peas? As a seasonal vegetable, peas can be grown at any time of the year. Planting times can be flexibly adjusted based on crop rotation, seasonal conditions and market demand to ensure that pods are available on the market within the desired time. The planting and harvesting schedule for peas is roughly as follows: Autumn sunshade net shed planting: sowing from early August to the end of August, and harvesting is expected before October 1st. Autumn open field planting: sowing from late August to mid-September, harvesting in mid-October. Winter film greenhouse planting: October to February of the following year, harvest time during the New Year's Day. Winter open field planting: sowing from November to January 5 of the following year, and harvesting in winter. Spring field planting: February to April, harvest time is mid-May. Summer open field planting: sowing from early May to late May and late June, harvesting in summer. Summer sunshade net shed planting: sowing from mid-May to mid-June, harvest expected in early July. Key points of pea planting technology 1. Seeding technology There are several methods for sowing peas: spot sowing, broadcast sowing and row sowing. When sowing, keep the row spacing at 35 cm and the plant spacing at 10 cm. Sow 2 to 3 seeds in each hole, and the seed amount is about 10 to 20 kg. The amount of seeds broadcast is 15 to 20 kg per mu. Drill sowing is usually recommended because it saves seeds, facilitates weeding, and is conducive to fertilization and harvesting. When sowing in rows, the width of the ditch is 30 cm and the width of the surface is 1.5 meters. The sowing width is 0.15 meters and the empty width is 0.25 meters. Cover with fine soil after sowing. The number of seeds sown per acre should be controlled between 37,000 and 43,000 seeds. 2. Fertilization strategy During the land preparation stage, about 1,000 kg of manure is applied per mu. When sowing, use 20 kg of 45% triple compound fertilizer or 25 kg of calcium magnesium phosphate fertilizer per mu and spread it on the sowing furrow or sowing belt. When the emergence rate reaches about 70%, apply 5 kg of ammonium sulfate or 10 kg of urea per mu, apply it in the form of aqueous solution or spread it before rainfall. In the early stage of flowering and podding, apply 10 kg of ammonium sulfate or 15 kg of urea per mu, also in the form of aqueous solution. During the grain filling stage, if conditions permit, foliar spraying can be carried out, using 100 grams of potassium dihydrogen phosphate to 40 kilograms of water per mu to increase grain weight. 3. Chemical weed control After sowing and before germination, use 100 ml of 50% sethoxydim or 200 ml of 20% cypermethrin per mu, and spray the entire field with 50 kg of water. After spraying, people and animals should be prevented from stepping on the pesticide to avoid damaging the pesticide soil layer. 4. Pest and disease management Peas have relatively few diseases and pests. If pests and diseases occur, you can use 20 grams of 10% imidacloprid plus 6 ml of diazinon for prevention and control, mainly targeting leaf miners, aphids and cabbage loopers. While preventing and controlling insect pests, you can add 75 to 100 grams of 75% thiophanate-methyl to prevent diseases. 5. Harvest at the right time Peas are mainly eaten fresh. When the seeds are full and the shell color begins to fade, they can be picked and shelled in batches and put on the market. When picking, hold the bean vine with your left hand to prevent damage to the plant. The above is an introduction to the planting time and technical points of peas. Farmers who want to plant peas can choose the appropriate planting time according to the actual climatic conditions in the region.
