How to fertilize strawberries?

How to fertilize strawberries?

Because strawberries have a long growth cycle and high yield requirements, they require a relatively large amount of fertilizer throughout the entire growth cycle. In order to ensure the yield and variety of strawberries, farmers who grow strawberries must do a good job of fertilizing. So how do you fertilize strawberries? Let’s take a look with the editor below.

1. Fertilization time

1. Before planting (basal fertilizer)

Before planting strawberries, apply sufficient base fertilizer, 2000-3000 kg of decomposed organic fertilizer per mu, and add an appropriate amount of compound fertilizer to ensure the smooth growth of the strawberries after planting and improve the survival rate.

2. Seedling stage

After planting strawberries, keep the soil moist to promote root growth. You can spray or drip irrigate with appropriate amounts of rooting agents and foliar fertilizers , such as potassium dihydrogen phosphate, to promote plant growth.

3. Bud stage

The budding stage is a period of greater nutritional demand, and top dressing is required in a timely manner. You can apply an appropriate amount of urea and potassium sulfate per mu, and spray a mixture of "Shuangbao Taizong Foliar Fertilizer" and potassium dihydrogen phosphate at the same time to promote flowering and fruiting.

4. Flowering period

No fertilizer is applied during the flowering period. No nitrogen, phosphorus or potassium fertilizers are needed until more than 70% of the buds appear and about 10 days before 70% of the flowers have withered.

5. Resulting period

A large amount of nutrients is needed during the fruiting period. Phosphorus and potassium fertilizers should continue to be applied, and nitrogen fertilizers should be supplemented appropriately.

6. After picking the fruit

After the strawberries are harvested, the plants consume a lot of nutrients and need to be replenished quickly. Top dressing can be done to promote plant recovery and the formation of new leaves and roots.

2. Fertilization method

1. Fertilization principles: Apply base fertilizer heavily, apply appropriate topdressing, and apply foliar fertilizer.

2. Fertilization tips: ensure that the base fertilizer is applied evenly, use appropriate fertilization tools, control the amount and frequency of fertilization, and choose the appropriate time for fertilization.

3. Top dressing skills: Top dressing skills for strawberries include how to apply top dressing effectively, ensure that the fertilizer is evenly distributed, and avoid direct contact with the stems and leaves of the plants to avoid burns.

4. Foliar topdressing: Strawberries can be fertilized on the leaves from the budding stage to the fruit development stage, and sprayed with pesticides once every half a month or so. During the flowering period, 0.3% potassium dihydrogen phosphate can be sprayed 3-4 times and 0.2% borax 1-2 times. Spraying 0.2-0.3% Stanley 20-20-20 water-soluble fertilizer (containing calcium and other trace elements) during the early and peak flowering stages can increase yield and enhance storage durability.

The above is an introduction to how to fertilize strawberries. Strawberries have different nutrient requirements at different growth stages, so adjustments should be made based on the fertilizer requirements and growth period of the strawberries. After applying organic fertilizer, care should be taken to maintain appropriate soil moisture.
