The causes and treatments of yellow leaves of Aspidistra

The causes and treatments of yellow leaves of Aspidistra

1. Too much light

Reason: It is afraid of direct sunlight, and being exposed to the sun for a short period of time may cause the leaves to burn and turn yellow.

Treatment: The plant needs to be moved to a cool, shady place immediately for maintenance. Cut off the leaves that are severely yellow, and spray some water on the surface of the leaves that are less yellow to help them recover and reduce damage. When growing Aspidistra indoors, try to place it in a place with sufficient and bright diffuse light. If the sunlight is too strong, it needs to be shielded from the strong light.

2. Overwatering

Reason: Aspidistra likes water. However, if you water too much, causing serious water accumulation in the pot, affecting the root breathing, the leaves will turn yellow.

Solution: Place it in a ventilated place and use a shovel to loosen the soil slightly to allow the moisture in the soil to evaporate as quickly as possible. Water the Aspidistra when the soil is dry and do not water it too much. Sufficient water is needed during the growth period, but make sure there is no water accumulation.

3. Overfertilization

Reason: It has low fertilizer requirements and is prone to over-fertilization. If too much fertilizer is applied, the roots will be burned and the leaves will turn yellow due to fertilizer damage.

Treatment: Immediately irrigate with large amounts of water to allow excess fertilizer in the soil to flow out from the drainage holes and dilute the fertilizer concentration in the soil.

4. Pests

Reason: When growing Aspidistra indoors, it is more likely to be harmed by red spider mites. Red spider mites live on leaves, sucking sap and causing them to turn yellow.

Treatment method: It is necessary to spray trichloronate, nisolan, etc. in time for treatment, and then place the plant in a ventilated and cool place to wait for it to recover. During daily maintenance, you should check both sides of the leaves frequently and wipe them with clean water from time to time to ensure that the leaves are clean and bright, which can also effectively prevent damage from pests.
