1. Grafting timePeach grafting is usually carried out in spring or summer. Spring grafting usually takes place from April to June, when the plant grows very fast, so the wound is easier to heal after grafting, and the success rate is higher. Summer grafting is carried out in August and September. Although the healing is not as good as in spring, the survival rate is also good. Just pay attention to controlling the temperature. 2. Rootstock SelectionIn addition to the native rootstock, other rootstocks for peach blossom grafting include hairy peach, mountain peach and hairy cherry. There are many advantages of using peach as rootstock, such as strong affinity and well-developed root system. After grafting, it not only grows vigorously, but also has certain drought and cold resistance, and can tolerate high humidity. Using mountain peach as rootstock can make it resistant to salt and alkali, but it is not resistant to waterlogging and is prone to root rot. The growth rate of cherry tree as rootstock is relatively slow, which can have a dwarfing effect. 3. Scion TreatmentFor peach scion, you should choose a healthy mother tree. If it is bud grafting, you need to find a full axillary bud, make a cut 0.5 cm below it, and make a cut 0.5 cm on each side. Cut it with the bark and whittle it into a shield shape. If you are grafting, you need to find a thick branch, cut off its leaves, and flatten the bottom. 4. Grafting and MaintenanceMake a small cut on the rootstock. If it is a bud graft, cut it into a T shape and insert the axillary bud through the cut and tie it up. If it is a grafting, you need to cut a 3-5 cm incision, insert the scion into the small opening, tie it with a plastic bag, and put it in a cool place, keep the air dry, and wait for the wound to heal. |
