When planting cucumbers in winter, you should choose varieties that are cold-resistant, high-yield and good-quality. When planting in summer, you should choose varieties with good heat resistance, high yield and long fruiting period. For outdoor planting in spring or summer, choose cucumber varieties that can tolerate high temperatures, have high yields and a long fruiting period. Let’s learn about the high-yield cultivation technology of cucumbers. 1. Land preparation and ridge cultivation Cucumber planting should choose loose soil, rich in organic matter, and with strong water and fertilizer retention capacity. The most suitable pH range is 5.7 to 7.2. When the pH value is lower than 5.5, the plant may experience physiological disorders, leading to chlorosis and death; when the pH value is higher than 7.2, it may cause root burn and salt damage. The high ridge cultivation method is adopted, with the ridge bottom width of 60 cm, the ridge surface width of 30 cm and the ridge height of about 40 cm. Avoid using base fertilizer to encourage roots to penetrate deep into the soil and cultivate a strong root system. 2. Seed selection and seedling cultivation Choose cucumber varieties with full seeds, strong disease resistance, stress resistance, good commercial quality and high yield, such as Jinyou No. 10 and Bonai No. 3. Seed treatment: Soak the seeds in 55℃ warm water for 10 to 15 minutes, stirring constantly until the water temperature drops to 30℃, and then soak for another 3 to 4 hours. Wash the seeds to remove the mucus, dry them and germinate them. Wrap the treated seeds with wet cloth and germinate them at 28℃ to 32℃ for 1 to 2 days. When 70% of the seeds germinate, they can be sown. 3. Transplanting and management Transplant the cucumber seedlings when they have two leaves and one heart, and plant them densely in single rows. Set up the drip tape and start watering. Plant the seedlings according to the water mark (20 cm), and stagger them on both sides when they are a little bigger. After transplanting, use "Strengthen Roots and Quicken Planting" to irrigate the stems and roots to promote root growth, shorten the seedling acclimatization period, promote plant growth, and bring the plants to market earlier. 4. Seedling Management Temperature control: From sowing to emergence, the daytime temperature is controlled at 28℃ to 32℃, and the nighttime temperature is 10℃ to 18℃; from emergence to heartbreaking, the daytime temperature is controlled at 25℃ to 30℃, and the nighttime temperature is 16℃ to 18℃; from heartbreaking to transplanting, the daytime temperature is controlled at 20℃ to 25℃, and the nighttime temperature is 12℃ to 16℃. Water management: Control water appropriately during the seedling stage to keep the soil moist. Seedling hardening: Control water 7 to 10 days before transplanting and increase ventilation to harden the seedlings at low temperature. The daytime temperature is controlled between 18℃ and 20℃, and the nighttime temperature is between 8℃ and 10℃. When the seedlings are 15 cm tall, have 3 leaves and 1 heart, and are about 35 days old, they can be transplanted. 5. Fertilization and irrigation Water the plants immediately after transplanting and then apply a rooting agent. When new roots grow underground, water with a complete nutrient solution. Apply about 5 kg per mu during the initial flowering period, and about 15 kg per mu during the peak fruit-bearing period. Irrigate the soil cultivation once a week. When the first melon is established on the plant, start watering it and increase the amount of water appropriately. When the soil is dry, carry out the second tillage and combine it with weeding. After the first watering, keep the soil moist and water flexibly according to the weather and plant conditions. 6. Hanging vine After transplanting the cucumbers, start hanging the vines, tie the thicker stems with vine hanging ropes, and as the vines grow, coil the heads, remove the old and diseased leaves at the bottom, and increase light transmittance. 7. Harvest Melons can be harvested 25 to 30 days after transplanting, and the harvest period is about 40 to 60 days. The average yield per mu is 4,500 to 5,000 kilograms. Harvest when the top of the melon becomes round from pointed. At this time, the melon has grown fully and is not overripe, which is the best time to harvest. The above is the high-yield cultivation technology of cucumber. You can refer to and learn from it based on the actual situation. If you want to achieve high yield of cucumbers, every step is critical.
