Cultivation methods and precautions for rose planting

Rose is a common flower with very high ornamental value after blooming. It has high market demand and is very popular, especially on holidays such as Valentine's Day. Large-scale planting of roses generally adopts the ground planting method. Below, the editor will introduce the cultivation methods and precautions of ground-planted roses. Let’s take a look.

1. Site selection and land preparation

Roses are light-loving, cold-resistant, drought-tolerant, and afraid of waterlogging. They should be planted in well-ventilated, sunny, and high and dry areas. It is not advisable to choose low-lying land, and ensure that the environmental conditions of the planting site are consistent with the habits of roses. Usually the land is plowed before winter, organic fertilizer is applied, and the land is leveled and harrowed before planting.

2. Breeding method

Choose hard branches of the current year that are healthy, free of pests and diseases, fully developed, and fully lignified. Cut them into 10-15cm long cuttings with three or four nodes. Cut the lower part into a bevel. It is better if treated with a rooting agent. Then insert it into the loose bed soil, leaving 30% of the cuttings above the ground. Pay attention to heat preservation and moisture retention after insertion, and transplant it after rooting and sprouting. You can also do softwood cuttings in the rainy season. Select semi-lignified softwood branches after flowering, remove the tops, take the middle and lower semi-lignified branches, insert them into the soil bed, and transplant them after they take root and sprout.

3. Water and fertilizer management

Roses are mostly cultivated in the open field. When planting, well-rotted organic fertilizer should be applied. Roses are fertilizer-loving plants. Generally, they need to be fertilized four times a year. Apply germination fertilizer once before budding in early spring, apply flowering fertilizer once before flowering, apply flowering fertilizer again during the flowering period, and apply wintering fertilizer once before wintering. If the weather is dry in early spring, water the plants in time to promote flower bud differentiation and prolong flowering time.

4. Field management

During the growing period, inter-row cultivation and weeding should be carried out frequently. Roses are afraid of waterlogging. If water accumulates for a long time, the lower leaves will turn yellow and fall off. In severe cases, the plant will die. Therefore, drainage should be carried out in time during the rainy season. After winter, turn over the rose garden and fertilize and cultivate the soil. If the branches are sparse, add more soil to promote branch germination, otherwise add less soil.

5. Plastic surgery

For roses that have been planted for 4-5 years, turn out the old roots during the dormant period, remove diseased and insect-infested branches and aging branches, and then replant. And divide the overcrowded and vigorous clusters, or cut off the aging rose plants in autumn and winter, then plow the soil between the rows, apply cake fertilizer and other decomposed organic fertilizers, and water enough. Although the flower production in the next year will not be much, the flower production will increase greatly in the next 2-3 years.

6. Notes

From late April to early May every year, the dead or diseased branches of roses should be cut off and removed from the garden. Cut off 7-8 year old branches at 20-30 cm from the ground or dig out the whole branch, cut off the old and diseased branches, divide and plant separately to avoid duplication.

The above are the cultivation methods and precautions for roses planted in the ground. To make the roses flourish, colorful and leafy, you must master the above methods and precautions when planting roses in the ground.
