Symptoms and prevention of common diseases of cattle in spring

The temperature warms up in spring, but it fluctuates greatly, with sudden changes in temperature. Cattle are prone to getting sick. Therefore, we remind farmers to pay attention to the prevention and treatment of several common cattle diseases and avoid misdiagnosis.

1. Influenza

1. Symptoms: Symptoms of influenza include depression, tearing, clear nasal discharge, loss of appetite, or even loss of appetite, rare or even no rumination, and body temperature sometimes reaching over 41°C.

2. Treatment: The treatment method mainly focuses on antipyretic and analgesic. You can give intramuscular injection of compound aminopyrine solution or 30% analgin solution 20-40 ml, 1-2 times a day. To prevent secondary infection, if the body temperature does not drop or the symptoms do not ease after using analgesics, sulfonamides or antibiotics may be used appropriately.

3. Prevention: In addition to strengthening feeding management , attention should also be paid to preventing livestock from catching cold when the weather changes suddenly. Sick cattle should be isolated promptly and provided with plenty of warm drinking water.

2. Rumen bloat

1. Symptoms: Symptoms of rumen bloat include cessation of rumination, arched back, head often bent towards the abdomen, rapid swelling of the abdomen, most notably on the left side, difficulty breathing, and even an open mouth and tongue sticking out. Acute cases may include sweating, panic, and restlessness. Severe cases may cause staggering when walking or suddenly fall to the ground and die.

2. Treatment: Treatment methods include: ① Oral administration of 20 grams of garlic , mashed, add 5 grams of cooking oil, 15 grams of vinegar, mix and orally administer once; ② Place a wet wooden stick horizontally in the cow's mouth and let the cow lick it. At the same time, use a bamboo stick to extend under the cow's belly. Two people hold the bamboo stick on both sides and slowly roll it under the cow's belly to help the cow expel gas; ③ Acute rumen bloat requires puncturing the rumen with a cannula needle in the left flank to deflate. The exhaust should not be too fast to avoid causing acute cerebral anemia.

3. Prevention: Prevention methods include not feeding moldy feed .

3. Rumen food accumulation

1. Symptoms: The affected animals stop eating, rumination weakens or stops, rumen motility weakens, and usually a small amount of soft or loose feces is excreted. In severe cases, the feces contain blood and mucus. The back is arched and the waist is bent, and the abdomen is swollen. In the later stages, breathing becomes rapid, pulse rate increases, and body temperature generally does not change significantly.

2. Treatment: For oral laxatives, you can use 400-500 grams of sodium sulfate and add water to make a 10% solution, and add 20-30 grams of ichthyol, and take it orally all at once. In severe cases accompanied by dehydration and acidosis, compound sodium chloride solution or 5% glucose saline solution can be injected intravenously, 2000~3000 ml each time, 2~3 times a day.

3. Prevention: Prepare the feed properly and do not feed moldy or rotten feed.

4. Parasitic diseases of cattle

1. Symptoms: The affected cattle's hair falls off partially or completely, with a clear boundary between the affected part and the healthy part, and small granular nodules on the edge, forming a scab.

2. Prevention and treatment: ① Ensure that the cattle body is clean and apply 2% trichlorfon solution to the affected area; ② Orally take insect killer and insecticide; ③ Subcutaneously inject avermectin and ivermectin.
